Country Care Pet Hospital

Dr. Gretchen Gerber grew up here in the Northwoods of Wisconsin just 2 hours south of her current hometown, Moquah. Graduating from the University of Minnesota’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 1985 marked the realization of her lifelong dream…and the beginning of a lifetime of continued learning! Her special areas of interest are laser surgery, nutrition, laser therapy, and wellness. Though cats and dogs are her most common patients, it is not unusual to find in her waiting room the occasional bunny, rodent, ferret, bird, or reptile.

When Dr. Gerber isn’t involved in something pet-related at her office, she’s likely doing something pet-related at home. With her husband, Fred, she shares a diverse animal family, which presently consists of three Pembroke Welsh Corgies, a Labrador Retriever, four cats, two horses, 13 laying hens, two peahens, and one spectacularly beautiful peacock.

For fun and recreation, Dr. Gerber enjoys making gemstone beaded jewelry (with lots of help from the kitties), taking jumping and dressage lessons on her Arab/Paint horse, gardening, scuba diving, deer hunting, ice fishing, and attending veterinary continuing education courses.

Besides treating patients and managing Country Care Pet Hospital, Dr. Gerber helps direct the animal rescue organization she founded in 2006, Helping PAWS Pet Rescue, Inc. Helping PAWS is a no-kill rescue, which was founded primarily to care for and place companion animals who would not be eligible for admission to other rescues because of medical or other special needs. The Helping PAWS Low Cost Spay/Neuter program continues to help local low-income families who would not otherwise be able to sterilize their pets.

Specializes in laser surgery, nutrition, laser therapy, and wellness.
