The Barkery

I decided to open The Barkery after I adopted my dog Kiki as a 12 week old puppy in 2004.  I was unable to find treats that I believed to be healthy and delicious for her.  I set out using my vast baking experience from years of working in "human" bakeries and started creating recipes.  I initially taste tested the treats with dogs of friends, family and neighbors.  Once I knew I had something special, The Barkery was born. 

We opened in 2006 as just the dog bakery.  In 2008, we moved to our current location and added on grooming and self-serve wash.  Today we ship our products all over the United States, and we have shipped to 4 other countries.  In 2017, we were featured on the Today Show web site when a picture of a client with one of our dog cakes when viral!

The Barkery is pleased to offer cage-free grooming services for both your dog and cat! Our groomers offer start-to-finish grooming which means that your pet is the only one that they are working on while your pet is with us. Because of this, most dogs and cats will only be with us for 90 minutes (exceptions to this are large, long-furred dogs that will need longer to dry). This means no more having to drop Fido off at 8am and pick back up at 5 pm. And, best of all, your dog or cat will not be stressed because he will be back with you in no time!

We offer grooming services Tuesday-Sunday.

Our tubs are waist-high pet tubs and we offer the Bathmaster bathing system that makes bathing your pet much easier. With the bathing system, the shampoo and conditioner come out with the water so you know that the shampoo is getting right down to the dog or cat’s skin. Plus, because our tubs are waist high, there is no bending for you. You come in, bath your dog and leave the mess behind for us!

Our Self-wash is open any time our store is open.  However, the last bath of the day must be started 45 minutes prior to closing for long-haired pets and 30 minutes prior to closing for short-haired pets.

All of our bakery treats are made on site in our Tewksbury, MA store.  We use only the finest human ingredients in all of our treats.  Our canine biscuits are available in 11 different flavors: Apple Oatmeal, Beef, Cheddar Cheese, Chicken, Grain Free Cheeseburger, Grain Free Peanut Butter, Peanut Butter, Peanut Butter Banana, Peanut Butter Carob, Pumpkin Spice and Veggie.  All of our biscuits are made with 5 ingredients or less.

We specialize in dog birthday cakes, offering cakes in 4 different flavors and 4 different sizes/shapes.  Choose from Apple Oatmeal, Carob Chip, Cheeseburger or Peanut Butter Banana cake flavors and 4" round, 6" round, 9.5" bone or 11.5" paw shape.
